There are always space constraints to deal with when supplying electrical connections in town centres. On this development, Utility Depot also had to resolve some issues around off-site works with the host network.

Our experience in delivering electrical connections to high rise schemes came to the fore as the project developed. The addition of more apartments and extra storeys meant Utility Depot needed to amend our designs and recalculate to accommodate the additional load required.

We were very excited when approached by a customer to deliver the installation of gas, electric and water to this architect designed house.

Liaising with all GWE networks we successfully installed all services on time and under budget meaning the new tenants could enjoy their fantastic home at the earliest available opportunity.

Work was progressing well on site until Covid hit meaning all works had to stop putting this development massively behind schedule. Once safe to do so we worked hard liaising with all networks and laying all of over 1km of mains and service cable/pipes plus commissioning of the new substation and all associated connections to deliver this project before Christmas 2020 so the new home owners could move in.

We worked closely with site and their client team to over come issues surrounding the route of the mains ensuring site could remain open allowing for the delivery of essential building materials. Difficulties with the water main installation were overcome by speaking with site on a daily basis ensuring all parties knew what was required from the network.

This was another job held up by Covid but by communicating with all parties we successfully delivered on time.

This city centre project was brought to Utility Depot in October 2019. We were immediately met with challenges surrounding the proposed PV plans, for which the client had little information and the plans were later abandoned. Further down the line when the pandemic hit, we were faced with further difficulties in liaising with relevant companies IE the local water network, who’s staffing issues created huge lags in communication. We faced these challenges head on to prevent any avoidable concerns for our client and with a lot of perseverance and patience we managed to get the answers we needed to continue.

This project was also unique in that our works have had to run in line with the customer’s 278 works to avoid unnecessary road closures in such a busy city centre – keeping the local residents happy is always paramount. We have maintained regular contact with our client and thanks to our continued hard work and excellent relationships with all parties concerned the project is now nearing completion.
